VIDEO: Tommy Shelby’s Throne Is Threatened in ‘Peaky Blinders’ Season 5 Trailer

Cillian Murphy stars on the British crime drama, returning to Netflix on Oct. 4

Cillian Murphy’s iconic anti-hero Tommy Shelby rose from local crime boss to member of Parliament over the first four seasons of the gritty British drama “Peaky Blinders,” but in the trailer for Season 5 it appears he may be in for a reckoning.

“When I sleep, I dream, and in my dream, someone wants my crown,” he says at the beginning of the explosive clip. “People think that I’m gonna fall. Who’s gonna take the throne?”

Arriving on Netflix in October, the new batch of episodes sees the Shelbys grappling with the stock market crash of 1929 while Tommy fights off usurpers ranging from fascist political rivals to his own family members.

“So, Tommy Shelby, it’s war you want, it’s war you shall have,” one character tells him.

“Do you have some kind of death wish, Mr. Shelby?” another adds over a montage of mayhem, machine guns, and even a crucifixion.

Created by Steven Knight (“Serenity”), “Peaky Blinders” co-stars Helen McCrory (“His Dark Materials”), “Game of Thrones” star Aidan Gillen, and Russell Crowe’s “Loudest Voice” co-star Annabelle Wallis, among others, alongside Season 5 newcomers Anya Taylor-Joy (“Glass”), Sam Claflin (“Charlie’s Angels”), and Brian Gleeson (“Hellboy”). Though the show takes place before World War II, its scenes are often set to music from contemporary bands, including the White Stripes, Black Sabbath, Radiohead, and former Stern Show guests Royal Blood.

“Peaky Blinders” Season 5 debuts on Netflix on October 4.
