Charlize Theron voices the matriarch of a very macabre household in “The Addams Family,” set to haunt theaters in time for Halloween.

The Oscar winner and recent Stern Show guest stars as Morticia Addams and the official trailer for the animated film begins as she and her husband Gomez (“Star Wars: The Last Jedi’s” Oscar Isaac) have decided to move their creepy, kooky, mysterious, and spooky family into an otherwise quiet suburban neighborhood. All manner of mischief and mayhem ensues, from Wednesday Addams (“Kick-Ass” star Chloë Grace Moretz) resurrecting frogs at school to Pugsley (“Stranger Things” actor Finn Wolfhard) and his Uncle Fester (“Big Mouth’s” Nick Kroll) playing Battleship with actual explosives.

Other than a few bizarre tendencies, however, Gomez assures his family they’re just like everyone else in the neighborhood. “Deep down we’re all the same,” he says at one point. “Let us show them what it means to be an Addams.”

When Charlize last visited the Stern Show in April, she spoke to Howard about “The Addams Family,” telling him she had high hopes for the animated feature. The actress also opened up about everything from working with Seth Rogen on “Long Shot” to producing “Mindhunter” to starring in another upcoming project as the real-life newswoman Megyn Kelly. Look back at her and Seth’s sit down with Howard here.

“The Addams Family” opens Oct. 11 in theaters.
