AUDIO: Aurora Drops ‘Queendom,’ Lead Single Off Upcoming Album

Norwegian singer-songwriter returns with first new music since her 2016 Stern Show debut

April 17, 2018

It’s shaping up to be a great month for Aurora fans.

In addition to wowing audiences at Coachella 2018, the Norwegian singer-songwriter has just released “Queendom,” a brand-new single from her hotly anticipated sophomore LP hitting shelves later this year.

The upcoming album will be her first since her acclaimed 2016 debut “All My Demons Greeting Me as a Friend,” containing tracks like “I Went Too Far” and “Runaway.”

Published Monday on YouTube, the audio track for “Queendom” (above) has already racked up over a quarter-million views. Aurora’s official channel also provided an explanation for the song’s meaning:

“Queendom is about celebrating all the differences in us. It’s about celebrating the women and the children and animals and the men also. The quiet ones and the introverts, where they can sing and be seen. It’s about the shy people and the lonely people and I hope it can be a place where we can come and be lonely together and then not be lonely anymore. Queendom is a place for all of us.”

Aurora is no stranger to quiet ones and introverts, of course, as she proved in July of 2016 after making her Stern Show debut. The then 20-year-old musician performed a killer cover of David Bowie’s “Life on Mars?” and sat with Howard for a fascinating interview before making her way to the back office where she met the one and only JD Harmeyer. Their conversation—which Howard later described as “beautifully awkward”— touched upon everything from Chinese food to bird watching. Take a listen (below).

In addition to another Coachella performance, Aurora also has a string of U.S. and European tour dates lined up. Get ticket info here and listen to “Queendom” (above).
