Robert Pattinson has played a vampire, a wizard, and even a limousine driver in past films, but in “High Life” the actor and 2017 Stern Show guest embraces his most far-out role yet—a prisoner sent on a dangerous mission through deep space in the name of science.

A24 has released the official trailer for Claire Denis’ (“Chocolat”) future-set, erotically tinged thriller, which debuted to rave reviews at the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. The new clip (above)—chock-full of more blood, babies, black holes, and creepily drifting astronauts than anyone would care to count—begins with Pattinson lamenting the trajectory of his new career path. “We were scum, trash, refuse that didn’t fit into the system until someone had the bright idea of recycling us to serve science,” he explains.

While plot details are vague, the star-studded cast also features Mia Goth (“Suspiria“) and André Benjamin (one half of the hip hop duo OutKast) as Pattinson’s fellow prisoners as well as acclaimed French actress Juliette Binoche as a morally questionable doctor who forms a relationship with Robert’s character during their long trek through space. “You’re foxy and you know it,” he tells her at one point.

“High Life,” Denis’ English-language debut, hits theaters April 12.
